What Is Dermaglow LED Therapy?

Non-Surgical Skin Treatment

Non-Surgical Skin TreatmentsSome of the most common complaints we have about our bodies have to do with our skin. Whether our concerns are acne, paleness, roughness, stretch marks, wrinkles, freckles, or sun spots, our skin can cause us a lot of grief. Various medicines and skin treatments have been invented over the years, but it wasn’t until Dermaglow LED Therapy came along that we really started to experience quality results at minimal cost.

How Does Dermaglow LED Therapy Work?

Dermaglow LED Therapy works by applying a soft but intense LED light-emitting diode to the skin. Unlike invasive surgical treatments or oral medicines, this gentle and simple solution simply shines the special light on your skin to eliminate or minimize many kinds of skin conditions. It’s a fascinating process that works by transferring light frequencies, including infrared, blue, yellow, green, and red light, directly through the skin. The skin absorbs the light waves and responds at the cellular level with photo stimulation, accelerating restoration, improving collagen production, improving skin elasticity, strengthening skin cells, detoxifying the skin, moisturizing it, improving circulation, and more! And the effects continue long after each 15 to 20 minute session has ended. Results are typically noticeable after four to five weekly sessions, and some patients observe results even after the first treatment.

Conditions Treated by Dermaglow LED Therapy

The greatest thing about Dermaglow LED Therapy is the variety of skin conditions it treats. Dermaglow LED Therapy is effective or minimizing, and sometimes eliminating, many imperfections, including:

Ultimately, Dermaglow LED Therapy can make your skin tone more even and make it feel and look tighter, smoother, and healthier. Anyone who desires these kinds of results could be a candidate for Dermaglow LED skin therapy.

Benefits of Dermaglow LED Therapy

The next greatest thing about Dermaglow LED Therapy is its ease of use, painlessness, and cost-effectiveness. The procedure is completely non-invasive and requires no downtime or recovery! Patients simply come in for a quick 15 to 20 minute treatment session (usually weekly) and then return to life as normal. The safety and efficacy of this procedure make it a highly recommended skin treatment procedure at Southwest Plastic Surgery. Patients experience no pain, no difficulty, no transition, and no hassle: just beautiful results. Additionally, while most choose to utilize Dermaglow LED Therapy on their faces, it can also be applied to the chest, stomach, back, or other areas. With Dermaglow LED Therapy, you can have the beautiful skin you’ve been longing for at minimal cost with no pain and only gain!

BOTOX@ Cosmetic…Not Just for Frown Lines

BOTOX® in El Paso, TXBOTOX® Cosmetic has become well known for removing the typical frown lines between eyebrows. It is further in use for the horizontal forehead lines, the crow’s feet, bunny lines, jelly rolls, and to decrease the size of the masseter muscles. In a recent study published by JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, more benefits from BOTOX® Cosmetic were reported. Dr. Bonaparte and David Ellis reported on their performance study to understand the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinum toxin A) on the skin of women. These women were treated for the typical indication of softening the wrinkles around the forehead, glabella and crow’s feet.

BOTOX® CosmeticIt was shown that BOTOX® Cosmetic not only paralyzes the muscles creating the wrinkles but actually improves the pliability and elasticity of the skin. These two changes make skin look and feel more youthful. The mechanism of the skin change is unknown, but BOTOX® Cosmetic is having a skin tightening effect. However, these results are temporary, only lasting as long as the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic, which is usually between three to four months.

The study is very exciting, as BOTOX® Cosmetic appears to reverse the effects of aging and ultraviolet exposure, thus repairing and reversing skin damage. It even makes the addition of BOTOX® Cosmetic to maintenance creams and serums an exciting possibility.

At the Med Spa at Southwest Plastic Surgery, we have an ample experience with BOTOX® Cosmetic and XEOMIN®. Our team of certified aesthetic nurses is overseen by Dr. Frank Agullo. This is just one of many treatments that we can provide to prevent skin aging and restore your skin to a more youth appearance so that you feel revived.

Call our office in El Paso, TX at (915) 590 7900 or our office in Las Cruces, NM at (575) 520-5041 to schedule your appointment. We look forward to helping you look and feel your best!

Injections to Eliminate Your Double-Chin

Have you ever wished your double chin would just go away? Then you may be excited to learn about a new injectable that was just approved by the FDA. Kybella™ is just like the deoxycholic acid made by your own human body, which absorbs fat. However, when injected precisely into the submental fat, it zaps fat cells, but it is only designed and approved for the chin fat at this time.

It is very important to note that while this is exciting news for people who want to get rid of their double chin, there is extreme caution necessary because Kybella™ can inadvertently destroy other types of cells besides its target of fat cells, if not properly injected. You must go through a highly trained, board certified plastic surgeon to avoid having the wrong types of cells eliminated, such as skin cells, for example.

Patients who heed this warning may be clamoring to give the new Kybella™ a try. It is expected to revolutionize double chin problems in patients who feel conscious about that “turkey neck” syndrome but who do not want to go through a full-blown facelift procedure.

What to Expect with Kybella™

banda

The Med Spa at Southwest Plastic Surgery of El Paso, TX and Las Cruces, NM will be one of the first in the United States to offer Kybella™ for patients who want to get rid of their double chin. If you are interested in getting the procedure, here are some things you may want to know…

Overall, the potential for Kybella™ as an ideal solution for double chins is extremely promising and exciting to people who have been self-conscious about this part of their face. After its recent FDA approval, Kybella™ should be available at quality plastic surgery centers in the very near future, as early as this summer of 2015. Contact Southwest Plastic Surgery to find out when Kybella™ will be available!

Remedies for Sun Damaged Skin

Southwest Plastic Surgery of El Paso, TX offers several brilliant treatment methods for the upper chest area, as well as other parts of the body which may show telling signs of sun damage.

Laser Resurfacing or Broad Band Light (BBL): Laser skin resurfacing in El Paso is available for women with noticeable moderate to serious sun damage. Our board-certified plastic surgeon delivers skin rejuvenation through a laser, which delivers energy to the affected areas, helping to stimulate collagen regrowth and new cells. The treatment requires several visits to achieve visibly smoother and tighter skin, while also reducing the blotches and sun spots or freckles caused by sun damage.

Remedies for Sun Damaged Skin

Ultherapy®: This fairly new, non-invasive technique is FDA-approved to help firm and tighten the chest area, as well as other parts of the body, such as the face, neck, forehead, etc. Ultherapy® also stimulates new collagen growth by focusing energy into the underneath, deeper layers of skin, without harming the surface. It continues working for three months or longer, and the results last for a couple of years. This is an ideal solution for women who want to improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles because Ultherapy offers a deeper treatment than lasers.

Remedies for Sun Damaged Skin2

Chemical Peels: If the chest area is only mild, or if a patient wants to spend less, the chemical peels offer nice results. These are exfoliating treatments to “perk up” dull skin, hyperpigmentation, and fine lines or wrinkles. Patients have a choice between moderate to deep peels, depending on the chemical mixture created by our specialist; and based on the patient’s needs. The outer layer of skin is most vulnerable to sun damage; therefore it is best not to go out in the sun for a few weeks after a chemical peel until the skin has a chance to form new, healthy skin. However, the results are beautiful after those freckles and skin imperfections get peeled away, literally!

Summer is here, so don’t spend yours hiding behind your skin flaws. If you love wearing shirts that reveal a beautiful cleavage, then come see The Med Spa at Southwest Plastic Surgery in El Paso or Las Cruces to talk about the best remedy for your upper chest beautification process.

Say Bye-Bye to Jelly Rolls

Say Bye-Bye to Jelly RollsWhen you smile, the muscles around your eyes contract. Over time, this can cause wrinkles and creases to appear. The horizontal under eye lines are often caused by the circular muscles contracting and moving eyelids as you open and shut your eyelids. Blinking, squinting, and other unavoidable reflexes may lead to crow’s feet and also “jelly rolls” underneath the eyes.

In professional terms, these are known as orbicularis. The fine lines that result can be noticeably minimized with Botulism toxin, known commercially as BOTOX® Cosmetic or Xeomin®. This toxin temporarily paralyzes the muscles, relaxing them. The result? Fine lines disappear or appear smaller and less deep.

Great care is used to achieve a natural balance between smoothing the jelly roll lines, while retaining facial expression. The last thing you want is a face that appears “frozen” and expressionless. The goal is to minimize the lines, while allowing you to remain expressive. As long as you choose a qualified provider in El Paso, TX or Las Cruces, NM, the BOTOX® Cosmetic injections can be done with ease and without resulting in contrived facial expressions. The results can usually be accomplished within one session.

Some patients have wrinkles that are visible all the time, whether animated or not. These wrinkles tend to be deeper and harder to treat. Some patients find results are greatly enhanced when the BOTOX® Cosmetic is applied in conjunction with a filler, such as JUVÉDERM® or Restylane®. Of course, this depends on many factors, such as bone structure, muscle tone, skin texture and elasticity. It also depends on the expectations of you, the patient.

The location of the lines can also play a part in the final result. Lines located toward the outer (lateral) side of the lower eyelid tend to respond to treatment better than lines located toward the middle of the eyelid.

Because the skin around the eye area is very delicate, it is vital that you receive the BOTOX® Cosmetic injections from a provider who is very familiar with the anatomy and function of the muscles surrounding the eyes. The Med Spa at Southwest Plastic Surgery has performed thousands of successful treatments and is one of the country’s leading cosmetic practices; if you happen to live in the Southwest part of the U.S. it is worth the trip.

The wonderful thing about BOTOX®Cosmetic is its temporary nature; you can always elect to start with a small dose and add more injections later to gain the desired effect. If you try a low dose and decide you do not like it, the BOTOX® Cosmetic will gradually wear off. Call 915-590-7900 to get rid of those Jelly Rolls and give BOTOX® Cosmetic or Xeomin® a try.

What Is Micro Needling?

Noninvasive Skin Treatments

Noninvasive Skin TreatmentsYou’re starting to see fine line around your eyes and in the creases of your mouth. They are marks of a fulfilling life, but they are making you appear far older than you are. However, you aren’t really interested in synthetic fillers or laser treatments that seem to be ubiquitous on the market nowadays. If you’re searching for a noninvasive correction of acne, fine lines, and scarring, micro needling may be what you’re looking for.

Eclipse Micropen

Southwest Plastic Surgery offers automated micro needling, or “collagen-induction therapy,” to improve the overall appearance of the skin. The Eclipse Micropen is a dermal micro-needling device that penetrates the layers of the skin in order to stimulate the production of collagen in the tissues. The tip is equipped with hundreds of tiny needles that create small wounds in the skin. It sounds painful, but the use of a topical anesthetic makes it virtually pain-free. The tiny micro puncture sites made to the face cause the body to release new collagen. This fills in wrinkles and acne pitting, which smooths the complexion and erases years from the face.

Why Collagen?

Micro needling is effective because it stimulates collagen in facial tissues. Collagen is vital to having healthy, smooth skin; it is what gives the skin structural support and elasticity. It is also required for the replacement of dead skin cells. After people turn 40 years of age, there is a noticeable decrease in their skin’s collagen production. As the skin loses collagen, fine line and wrinkles develop due to a lack of support.

Benefits of Micro Needling

Last Step to Achieve Your Weight-Loss Goal

Body Contouring in El Paso, TX

Body Contouring in El Paso, TXIt’s the best feeling in the world when you step on the scale and it tells you that you’ve finally done it, reached your weight-loss goal. You’ve worked hard to get here, and you want to enjoy this. It’s hard though when the scale says you’ve shed that unwanted poundage but you don’t feel like you have. Your clothes still don’t fit right, and there’s no way you’d be caught in your swim suit. Sometimes it can feel like you’re dragging around a coat of extra skin that prevents you from feeling truly attractive in your new body.

It’s unfortunate that this is often the case with major weight-loss stories. You’ve done all the work to lose the weight, and it’s not fair that you have to deal with excess skin too. Luckily, you’re not stuck with it. At Southwest Plastic Surgery you can undergo various degrees of body contouring to get the look and feel of a body you deserve. Dr. Agullo a board-certified plastic surgeons, and his years of experience help them sculpt a variety of areas to give you the body you’ve been dreaming of.

Body Contouring

Body contouring is an effective way of shaping and tightening the body after extreme weight loss. It involves procedures performed on different areas of the body to remove excess skin and tissue. It can enhance the arms, thighs, buttock, abdomen, and chest. Body contouring may utilize liposuction and/or a number of lifting techniques.

Liposuction

Liposuction is used to remove any leftover fat deposits and create more pleasing body proportions. It is ideal for eliminating stubborn fat that clings to the thighs, tummy, arms, and neck. Fat removed through liposuction can also be used for breast augmentation using fat transfer.

Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck surgery is probably the most common procedure performed to correct sagging skin. It removes fatty tissue and skin from the abdomen. It also tightens the abdominal muscles and the remaining skin to provide a flatter, slimmer look.

Arm Lift

An arm lift will rid the body of loose skin hanging from the arms. This procedure will tighten the skin from the armpit to the lower arm. This helps people feel more confident in tank tops and dresses.

Lower Body Lift

A lower body lift will help tighten the major problem areas of the lower body: the thighs, buttocks, and abdomen. Excess tissue is removed, and the skin is pulled tight to create a firm appearance. Incisions are placed in inconspicuous locations so they can be hidden by clothing.

Breast Contouring

For women, weight loss also means volume loss in the breasts. Some women only experience sagging of the breasts, which can be corrected with a breast lift procedure. Women who wish to only slightly increase their size and maintain natural results should consider breast augmentation using fat transfer. Women that are suffering from major size and shape loss would benefit from breast augmentation using implants. Correcting the breast appearance can restore a balanced look to a woman’s whole body.

Don’t keep lugging around all that excess skin. You’ve done the work and you deserve to reap the rewards. To discuss which body contouring techniques would best suit you, schedule your consultation at Southwest Plastic Surgery today. For the El Paso office call (915) 590- 7902. For the Las Cruces office call (575) 520-5041. You can also contact us online by filling out our online contact form here.

Winter Is the Season for Plastic Surgery

People often wonder what time of year they should undergo a plastic surgery procedure. While everyone is different and some people may have conflicting circumstances, winter is generally the ideal time to undergo plastic surgery. Whether you’re considering a procedure to rejuvenate and enhance your face, breasts, or body, here are the reasons why Jack Frost and plastic surgeons get along so well.

Time Off for Recovery

After surgery, you will need downtime to recover. This can involve anywhere from a few days to two weeks off work, and you should refrain from strenuous physical activities for at least a couple of weeks. Most people can take time off in the winter for vacation, and many offices are closed during the holidays, leaving plenty of time to recover from surgery. Additionally, you are more likely to have a loved one who will have some time off during the holiday season to care for you for the first day or two after surgery.

Less Direct Sunlight

While it is important to protect your skin from sun exposure at all times, it is especially important to refrain from being in direct sunlight right after your surgery. Exposure to sunlight will impair healing and can turn incisions into more noticeable scars once they are healed. The gloomy and foggy winter months make it easier to stay out of the direct sunlight. Remember that even when it’s overcast, it’s still important to wear sunscreen with an SPF of 25 or greater and to cover your skin as much as possible.

Bundle Up Until You’re Healed

You may have some swelling and bruising for a week or two after surgery that you’ll want to cover up when you go out in public. With the cold weather, everyone is bundling up with long sleeves, jackets, scarves, and beanies to stay warm. You’ll blend right in as you bundle up to camouflage bandages, swelling, and bruising until you’re all healed.

Heal Just in Time to Show Off Results

After winter comes more sunshine and warmer weather, and all those layers of clothing are no longer needed to keep you warm. If you undergo your plastic surgery procedure in the winter, you should have plenty of time to completely heal and allow any incisions to fade just in time to show off your fantastic results in the coming spring and summer months.

Don’t wait; now is the time to undergo plastic surgery! If you are interested in rejuvenating your appearance or enhancing any of your features, please call (915) 590-7900 or fill out our online contact form today. We look forward to helping you achieve an appearance you can’t wait to show off!

Ultherapy® for Non-Invasive Skin Tightening

Many people would love to experience all the benefits of a surgical facelift – tight, youthful skin free of fine lines and wrinkles – but they don’t want the burden of surgery or the hassle of a long recovery time. Ultherapy® is the latest and safest option for those with such desires. Without any surgery, lasers, or downtime, this ultrasound treatment can painlessly deliver results similar to a facelift in as little as one 45 to 60 minute treatment session.

Benefits of Ultherapy®A woman from the shoulders up with beautiful skin on a blue background

How does Ultherapy® work?

The Ultherapy® device tightens the skin by using ultrasound technology to penetrate the deep, foundational layers. The ultrasound waves stimulate the body’s natural process of producing collagen (a protein vital for skin elasticity and strength), and the result is tighter, more youthful skin that will continue to improve over the next several months. Fine lines and wrinkles disappear as the texture of the skin becomes noticeably improved.

Where does Ultherapy® work?

Ultherapy® is very effective on the face and neck, including the eyebrows, décolletage, beneath the chin, and jowls along the jawline.

What results can I expect?

Many patients can see improvement immediately after treatment with Ultherapy®, but results will continue to improve for several months. Final results are usually apparent by six months and are long lasting. Potential patients should note that while Ultherapy® can significantly reduce fine lines and wrinkles, it will not address significantly lax skin as effectively as a surgical facelift. Sometimes Ultherapy® is used along with a facelift or in subsequent sessions to help maintain the initial results.

If you have sagging brows or jowls, wrinkles, droopy areas of skin, or dull skin, Ultherapy® may be the perfect solution for you. Please schedule a consultation with us by calling (915) 590-7900 or by filling out our online contact form today. We look forward to hearing from you!

How to Feel or Stay Under 30

Illustration depicting a sign with a fountain of youth concept. In the past, plastic surgery was reserved for improving the signs of aging once they became obvious. Today, with a new approach to prevention, people are trying to address these issues before they become apparent. The population seeking cosmetic procedures is starting younger and maintaining a younger appearance through less invasive procedures.

There are many ways, invasive and non-invasive, to delay and treat sings of aging.  Most of the surgical procedures enhance the aesthetic appearance of certain features, which is quite common among the young population and not necessary related to aging. The latest numbers show that the top plastic surgery procedures in patients under 30 in the United States according to The American Society of Plastic Surgeons are:

Top Cosmetic Procedures Under 30

On the other hand, many more patients under 30 opt for less invasive procedures to maintain an attractive and youthful appearance. These procedures are more common as they are usually less expensive, require less downtime, and fit well into busy lifestyles. The most common procedures are:

Top Plastic Surgery Procedures Under 30

Our prediction for 2014 is further increase in younger patients taking control in preventing signs of aging with the above-mentioned modalities and the latest technological advances:
•    Forever Young BBL
•    Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments
•    Stem cell treatments with fat injections

This paradigm shift from treatment to prevention has vast implications in the cosmetic field. These treatments not only make aging slower and steadier, but also minimize the need for more aggressive and expensive procedures in the future.
