Two questions open almost every breast reduction consultation at Southwest Plastic Surgery. Does insurance cover it. What does it cost.
The first answer is short. Dr. Agullo does not work with insurance. This is a cash-pay practice. If you would prefer a surgeon who accepts insurance, the team is happy to recommend one.
The second answer comes from Dr. Frank Agullo, who founded the practice and dictated it for this post.
How much does a breast reduction cost?
Dr. Agullo: “As of this writing, a breast reduction runs from 11,000 to 15,000 dollars, depending on whether the internal bra mesh is used. You can always find our current fees at agulloplasticsurgery.com/fees, which is the page we keep updated.”
What drives the cost up or down?
Dr. Agullo: “Several things can affect the total. One is the internal bra mesh, which provides internal support and, when it is used, adds to the cost. Liposuction is often combined with a breast reduction to refine the sides and the contour, and any additional lifting of the breast can add to the total as well. The final cost depends on the combination of these elements and the length and complexity of the procedure.”
That is the practice’s published fee as of September 2026, listed on the fees page with every other procedure.
What Is Included
Everything except prescriptions.
Operating room. Anesthesia. Garments, which for a breast reduction means two surgical bras. Vitamins. Post-scar care. The patient picks up her own medications at the pharmacy.
The tissue removed in surgery goes to a pathology lab. The lab is a separate business and bills the patient’s insurance directly for the analysis. The practice never submits a claim.
What Raises the Quote
| Add-on | Why Dr. Agullo recommends it |
|---|---|
| Internal bra (mesh support) | Supports the new shape from the inside |
| Liposuction of the sides plus Renuvion J-Plasma | Avoids fullness at the side of the chest, tightens the skin there |
| Additional lifting | The nipple has farther to move |
| Nipple grafts | Severe cases only |
| Incision extended to the lateral chest and back | The excess tissue does not stop at the breast |
| Additional operating room time | Longer, more complex cases |
Side liposuction plus Renuvion is the same pairing that shapes a gynecomastia quote at the practice. Revisions of a reduction done elsewhere are more complex than a first operation, so they price above the starting number and vary more.
How a Reduction Relates to a Lift
Same incisions as a breast lift. Same lift. One added step: tissue comes out. A lift alone runs $10,000 to $14,000 depending on mesh; the reduction adds about $1,000. Patients who want to keep their size and restore upper fullness without an implant are reading about a different operation, the auto-augmentation lift.
Recovery, Week by Week
The shape change is immediate. The breast is smaller and lifted right away. The final result takes longer, because swelling has to settle.
- Drains out at one week.
- Normal, easy-going activity at one week.
- Bruising two to three weeks.
- Exercise at four weeks.
- A special bra for four weeks: no underwire, no pushup. The practice provides two.
- Swelling takes about three months to settle and six months to settle completely.
After the four weeks in the surgical bra, as Dr. Agullo tells his patients, you can go shopping for new bras.
Booking a Consultation
Dr. Agullo is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, completed his plastic surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, and serves as Clinical Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He publishes his fees, which is rare.
The starting price is public. The final number depends on the patient’s anatomy and what is added, and an exact quote can only be provided after a consultation.
